The Library Points project was launched in the year 2011 at Kendriya Vidyalaya Kanjikode to attract students from class 6 and above to the school library, motivate effective utilization of library resources, kindle interest in reading and library activities, and foster proper library behavior. Inspired by customer loyalty programs used by nationalized banks and shopping malls, this system was adapted and tailored to meet the needs of a school library environment.

To streamline library operations and enhance user experience, several technological innovations have been implemented:
Student ID Cards and Library Cards: Each student is issued a Student Identity Card and a Library Card embedded with a unique barcode, making book issue and return faster and more efficient.
Notebook Barcoding: Students' library notebooks are also tagged with barcodes. This enables them to use either their ID card, library card, or notebook to borrow books, offering flexibility and ease of access. It also made easire adding library points to the system on submission of their notebooks.
QR Code Integration: Library cards feature QR codes linked to the student's unique library ID on the library website. By scanning the QR code, students can instantly view their Library Points and other details.
Library Mobile App: An Android application, developed in-house, allows students to conveniently track their library points using their mobile devices. More information...
Self-Circulation System: To manage high student turnout, especially during lunch breaks, a cost-effective Self-Circulation System was developed. This alternative to expensive RFID systems uses a barcode scanner integrated with the library software to allow students to issue books on their own.
These innovations not only reduce waiting times but also promote independent and responsible library use among students.
